The official number of the unemployed in the third quarter of this year stood at 38,000. The unemployment affected mainly men and persons from rural areas. The unemployment rate at national level was 4%, IPN reports, with reference to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Among young people, of the 15-24 age bracket, the jobless rate was 11.3%, while in the 15-29 age bracket – 8.4%. Among the inactive population, the pensioners represent over 45%. These are followed by persons who look after the family (housewives), with slightly over 13% and students with 12%.
The labor force in Moldova, which includes the employed population and the unemployed, totals 947,700. There are no significant discrepancies by sexes in the labor force.
Of all the salary earners, slightly over 9% had an informal job. Some 9.6% of the salary earners received pays “in envelope”, which is illegally. These were employed mainly in agriculture (54.9%), building sector (14.7%), trade (14.1%) and industry (3.8%).
