The successful relations between Georgia and Moldova are due to mutual respect, ambassador

The successful relations between Georgia and Moldova are largely due to traditional friendship and mutual respect between the people of the two countries. Relations between the Georgian and Moldovan people are not limited to recent history. Since the nineteenth century, there have been many outstanding representatives of Georgia in Moldova, who have made a significant contribution to the cultural, economic and social activities of Moldova. The statements were made by the Georgian ambassador to Chisinau, Merab Antadze, at the end of his mandate, IPN reports.

At a reception organized on this occasion, but also on the occasion of Georgia taking over the CoE presidency in November 2019, Merab Antadze has said that today Georgia and Moldova, in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and support, with joint efforts are taking important steps towards European integration. The Association Agreement signed with the European Union, and the implementation of the Agreement on a Deep and Comprehensive Trade Zone as well as a visa-free regime with the European Union, clearly indicate the progress made by both countries in recent years.

"On May 26, 1918, the Constituent Assembly of Georgia adopted the Declaration of Independence and, following the general democratic elections, the first Georgian Independent Republic has been established. I would like to emphasize that the choice of the modern independent state of Georgia - to become an integral part of a democratic civilized world - had been made a hundred years ago, when the First Democratic Republic was created," stated the ambassador.

Merab Antadze also mentioned that impressive and fundamental reforms were implemented to combat corruption and organized crime, as well as in the fields of economic freedom, doing business and the provision of public services according to the ratings of competent international organizations.

"Fortunately, unlike 1918, today, in the representatives of civilized countries, we have loyal partners and friends, with whose support Georgia is trying to successfully implement the historical choice of our people, made a hundred years ago. Speaking of loyal partners and friends, I want to emphasize in particular our exemplary relations with the Republic of Moldova. A country that alike Georgia, is struggling to overcome the problems inherited from the Soviet past and to carry out comprehensive reforms”, noted Merab Antadze.

The official has specified that, since the end of the second half of the last century, highly qualified specialists from various fields came to Moldova from Georgia. Moldova has truly become a second homeland for them and they successfully continue the work started by their compatriots. "I believe it were precisely such worthy people who laid the foundation for true mutual respect and love between the peoples of Moldova and Georgia that subsequently became a solid base for mutually beneficial cooperation between Georgia and Moldova at a high state level," stressed Merab Antadze.

"At the end, I would like to inform you that in the first decade of December my pretty long term in Moldova ends. Therefore, I take this opportunity and I want to thank each of you for the fruitful cooperation and friendship”, said the Georgian diplomat.
