The Republic of Moldova requests support from Latvia in the EU visa regime and foreign commerce issues
The Republic of Moldova requests continuous support from Latvia in the realization of the short term priorities of Moldova regarding the EU, especially the visa regime and the consolidation of foreign trade relations. This request has been made during the meeting of minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan with Aigars Kalvitis, the prime-minister of the Latvia Republic, which is paying an official visit in the Republic of Moldova.
According to the MFAEI, issues like the current status and development perspectives of the Moldovan-Latvian relations were discussed.
An important chapter in the discussions was the perspective of European integration for the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the RM-EU Action Plan, and the situation of the Transnistrian conflict. Vice-prime minister Andrei Stratan thanked the Latvians for the input of the Latvian experts in the monitoring mission of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. The Latvian support for the European tendencies of the Republic of Moldova has also been mentioned.
The current international issues and the cooperation of the two countries within the European and international organizations were also discussed.
During his official visit to the Republic of Moldova, the Latvian prime-minister took part in the signing ceremony of the Agreement between the Governments of the Republic of Moldova and the Latvian Republic regarding cooperation in education, youth and sports.
During this year the Republic of Moldova was also visited by the Latvian president and the minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
