The removal of checkpoints from the Security Zone will continue to be monitored

The Joint Control Commission has tasked the Joint Military Command with continuously monitoring how Tiraspol adheres to its commitments regarding checkpoints and fortifications and with properly documenting any obstacles to free movement in the Security Zone. The decision was made during a meeting on March 20 in Bender.

"The delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the Joint Control Commission will keep this issue under close observation and will respond promptly to any potential deterioration of the situation in this regard," stated a press release from the Bureau for Reintegration Policies, IPN reports.

The main topic of discussion was the monitoring of the removal of checkpoints and fortifications unlawfully installed in the Security Zone in 2022 by Tiraspol’s security forces. The Commission took note of the on-site findings reported by military observers from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, as well as clarifications provided by representatives of the Transnistrian region, according to the statement.

Reports from the Joint Military Command, covering the period from 2022 to the present, regarding these checkpoints were approved.

Additionally, during the meeting, members of the Joint Control Commission approved the appointment of two new military observers to the Peacekeeping Forces contingent of the Republic of Moldova.
