The press group Jurnal Trust Media demands that the president of the Supreme Court of Justice be dismissed. In a communique issued on February 14 in the evening, Jurnal Trust Media expresses its surprise and indignation at the attacks leveled by the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu at the mass media working in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the communique, in the speech delivered at the General Assembly of Judges on February 13, Muruianu said the mass media plays a diabolic and destructive role. “A diabolic and destructive role in this is played by the mass media that are the guard dogs of the society, but sometimes turn into rabid dogs that become dangerous for the society through the lies that they spread,” said Muruianu, who pledged to represent the supreme law and justice in Moldova. The journalists of the group say such a language and such an attitude towards the independent press derive from a Stalinist- and Communist-like mentality. “Not even before July 29, 2009, while under the Voronin regime, would Mister Muruianu afford to say such words that are not consonant with the European democracy and spirit, without facing the risk of being punished by the one whom he served obediently. Now he cowardly attacks the mass media covering himself with democracy and pluralism. “Jurnalul Trust Media, which promotes the freedom of expression and independence, does not trust anymore the discernment of such a judge. Therefore, we demand that the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova Ion Muruianu resign,” the communique says.
