The number of stroke surgeries in Moldova has significantly increased, according to the CNAM

The number of surgical interventions for strokes in Moldova has significantly increased over the first nine months of this year, with more than 200 patients gaining access to minimally invasive surgeries performed using the latest technologies as part of the "Interventional Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke" program. The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) reports that nearly 25 million lei were allocated for these procedures, primarily covering the necessary components. This year, the total budget planned for these treatments amounts to 30.7 million lei, IPN reports.

The National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) covers the cost of thrombolysis treatment, which involves the use of an expensive drug, alteplase, in addition to the cost of the treated case. For 2024, approximately four million lei have been allocated for this medication, double the amount allocated last year. In the first nine months of this year, more than 360 patients received thrombolytic treatment, totaling over four million lei, according to CNAM.

One of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of stroke is maintaining an active lifestyle. The National Health Insurance Company urges the population to regularly monitor blood pressure, quit smoking, reduce excessive alcohol consumption, engage in regular physical activity, and follow a healthy diet.

Each year, World Stroke Day is observed on October 29, providing an opportunity to raise awareness about the risks of stroke and encourage preventive measures. Stroke can affect anyone, regardless of age.
