“The new administration in Washington is acting as a proxy for the Russian Federation.” This statement was made by Romanian historian Armand Goșu during the "În Profunzime" program on Pro TV Chisinau. The historian claimed that the current U.S. administration is increasingly aligning itself with narratives promoted by Russia. According to him, the United States is adopting more and more of Moscow’s theses, which he finds “extremely concerning” for regional security.

Gosu emphasized that the idea of a Europe capable of replacing American support is an illusion. In this context, he expressed skepticism about the European Union’s ability to provide substantial military aid to Ukraine.

“There are states in Europe that do not see Russia as a threat and will do nothing but block any radical decisions. I do not believe that Ukraine can rely on solid European support. Of course, Ukraine will not fall tomorrow—it is holding out not because of Europe’s help, but because it is fighting alone, desperately, to withstand Russia,” Gosu added.

Furthermore, the historian believes that the United States will exert enormous pressure on Kyiv to hasten the closure of the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible.

“Some analyses suggest Ukraine can hold out for another two months, while others estimate a maximum of six months. It is clear that they will not give up easily, even if Trump wants to bring them to their knees. I believe Ukraine will face incredible pressure from the Americans because the U.S. wants to get rid of the Ukraine issue quickly and start negotiating other matters with Russia,” Gosu explained.

Next week, negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations regarding a ceasefire will begin in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. These talks follow the Trump administration’s decision to halt arms deliveries to Ukraine and suspend military intelligence sharing.
