Approximately 7 thousand pupils from educational institutions from the Republic of Moldova took part in the first edition of the National football tournament “Premier Cup”. The tournament, created with the intention to make football more popular and to promote sports, took place in all of the republic’s regions for more than a month. The winner of the tournament is the team of gymnasium from Lopatnic village, Edinet region, which met in the final with the team from the high-school of Olanesti town, Stefan Voda. The third place was taken by the team from Milestii-Mici village, Ialoveni rayon. In the message to the tournament’s participants, prime-minister Vasile Tarlev mentioned that “after a period of stagnation, the level of the Moldovan football started to improve”. The premier claims that “the great passion of youngsters for football takes this sport far beyond simple physical activity, and thus it becomes and important influence factor in the promotion of an active way of life and of a patriotic spirit in the new generation”. 410 teams with approx 7 thousand pupils took part in the competition at the regional level.
