The majority of the country's population is born in the Republic of Moldova – 95.9%, with a higher proportion in rural areas, where 98.1% of the residents are born in the Republic of Moldova, according to preliminary data from the Census of Population and Housing, IPN reports.

In terms of age groups, a higher proportion of individuals born in other countries was recorded for the age group 65 and older – 9.3% of the total population.

The census took place between April 8 – July 7, 2024, with 2.4 million citizens surveyed, including both those with a usual residence and those without a usual residence in the Republic of Moldova.
