Former ministers of defense Anatol Șalaru said Russia is completely disadvantaged by the prolongation of the war and the maintaining of the Western sanctions for a long period of time will plunge the country into deep recession. The ruling party says the Republic of Moldova abides the principle of neutrality that is stipulated in the Constitution and helps the Ukrainian nation by lodging the refugees, IPN reports.
Representatives of the government said the Republic of Moldova should not make forecasts about the developments at the Russian-Ukrainian talks. Given its neutrality status, Moldova should be preoccupied with the refugee crisis now that it hosts the largest number of refugees per capita.
“We will not become involved in this military conflict even if our country is vulnerable because we are situated in the immediate vicinity. International practice shows such negotiations are very hard and negotiators’ capacities are very important. We are now seeing the active phase of the escalation of the conflict. Such negotiations should take place with the involvement of other states that have experience in negotiating such conflicts and things can move on then, I think. In the Republic of Moldova, there is a lot of false, erroneous information. I call on the citizens to use only official sources. We witness real information warfare,” PAS MP Ana Racu stated in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.
Ex-defense minister Anatol Șalaru said Ukraine is now at an advantage compared with Russia, which discredited itself at international level, showing lack of vision and showing to the world that it has a disoriented and weak army.
“I don’t think the Ukrainian people will allow Zelensky to make concessions to the Russian aggressor. The Ukrainians would discuss the abandonment of NATO plans in exchange for security guarantees. As to the rest, Ukraine will not give up. Most of the European and American citizens demand that their leaders should support Ukraine, should provide armament and stop Putin. The Ukrainians have enough troops to put up resistance to the Russian invaders. Russia does not have so many troops now. To occupy a city like Kyiv, it needs 700,000 troops. The longer is the war, the larger are Russia’s losses and the weaker are the initial demands. The sanctions will not be made milder and Russia risks being in default,” said Anatol Șalaru.
Ex-Parliament Deputy Speaker Alexandru Slusari said he is skeptical about China’s willingness to intervene in the war alongside Russia. He referred to U.S. press reports that Moscow asked for military support from Beijing, whereas China refuted such reports.
“Until a peace treaty is agreed, Putin wants to destroy Ukraine further. Putin realized that he cannot liquidate the statehood of Ukraine and therefore shoots at civilians, destroys infrastructure so that Ukraine recovers with difficulty. Furthermore, Putin wants to know how swiftly the sanctions will be lifted. Zelensky banks on the support of the West, at least on armament and the support of public opinion so that Ukraine could counterattack. Russia loses daily. I don’t think China will become involved given the history of this nation. China considers the weaker are the Russian Federation and the West, the better it is for it, especially because China is more tied to the U.S. from economic viewpoint,” said the representative of PPDA Alexandru Slusari.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, 90 children were killed in shelling since the war started on February 24, while over 100 children were injured.
