In connection with the International Migrants Day, members of the Ecologist Green Party of Moldova called upon the authorities to support the Moldovans working abroad as they are often discriminated and are employed without an official contract, Info-Prim Neo reports. The party’s chairman Anatolie Prohnitski told a news conference that the Moldovan authorities should hold more talks with the European countries where Moldovans work so as to cooperate in the field of official employment. The Moldovan citizens should be also encouraged and promoted outside the country. According to Prohnitski, a large part of Moldova’s budget is based on remittances, but the previous governments and the current one do not pay sufficient attention to this group of Moldovans. “Meetings are held with representatives of the diaspora, but there should be created departments that would deal with Moldovans’ problems. The meetings with Moldovans are now rather emotional, with tears and concerts. But this is not right. They should be promoted to elective positions abroad. State policies should exist to support these Moldovans,” said the leader of the Moldovan Greens. The head of the Ecologist Green Party’s National Council Andrei Dumbraveanu said the Moldovans had to go abroad to work in order to support their families. The authorities do nothing to determine the real number of Moldovans working abroad and this is serious. Those rare studies made are financed by international nongovernmental organizations. The official figures show that over 800,000 Moldovans work abroad unofficially. But the real figure is over 1 million. Their contribution to the state budget represents 35%. According to studies, the Moldovans transferred home about €4,500 per family in order to maintain the children and parents. This money wasn’t used as investment or for creating workplaces. The leader of the young Greens Alexandru Donea said that most of the young people study because they want to get a visa and go abroad, where they can earn their living. According to him, there are no policies that would support the young Moldovans and would encourage them to settle in their country.
