The difference between people’s expectations and government’s actions is substantial. People are also quite disappointed with the institutions’ deoligarchization and depoliticization. At the same time, as never before, in the top of citizens’ s concerns are things related to the standards of living and the life style of people. From this point of view, the political class seems to run counter to the people’s expectations. The conclusions can be found in the Socio-Political Barometer - September 2019, conducted by the sociological research company [imas], for the first one hundred days of government.
"This is the first time that we notice exclusively problems of a socio-economic nature, things related to wages, pensions, jobs, poverty and prices. Hence, the great pressure that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova put on the political factor, on the government, demanding significant changes, ultimately, related to the standards of living. As for the top of the problems, one interesting thing could be noted: I think this is the first time when the roads are not in the top three, we see them somewhere on the eighth-ninth place - 3.7%. Not because the roads issue would be less important, but due to the fact that economic issues related to the daily life of the people, have started to rank first”, said the general manager of Imas, Doru Petruți, at an IPN press conference.
As to the ruling coalition, Doru Petruţi has mentioned that the survey shows different opinions. The respondents were asked to give a mark (from 1 to 10 scale), to the current government for the first three months of activity. Thus, 32% of the respondents gave a grade ranging from 1 to 4; 26% - from 5 to 6; 23% - from 7 to 8, and 8% - from 9 to 10. 11% of the respondents said they did not know or did not answer.
People believe that the biggest failure of Maia Sandu Government so far resides in "raising prices and tariffs" (7.6%); "Closed schools" (5.3%); "She is not the right person to lead" (4.2%), "many promises" (2.9%), etc. As for the achievements, people believe that the greatest one is "the dismissal of oligarchs " (9.2%), "the fight against corruption" (2.8%), "small changes" (2.6%), "new reforms” (1.4%) etc. "And you noticed the disappointment in terms of prices, salaries, economy. These are things that should be taken very seriously,” noted Doru Petruți.
If next Sunday, early parliamentary elections were held 36.1% of the voters would vote for the Socialist Party, 20.7% for the Action and Solidarity Party, and 9.4% for the Democratic Party. For Sor Party would vote 4.4% of the respondents, for the Communist Party 4.1%, and for the Dignity and Truth Party would vote 3.5%. At the same time, 4.2% said they would vote for other parties, 3.5% - they would not vote, and 14.1% did not know or did not answer.
"As far as the voting intention picture is concerned, I saw a slight redistribution of the electorate, with a rather serious migration towards PSRM. A redistribution of voters within the ACUM Bloc, where PAS and Prime Minister Maia Sandu are in the top rankings”, mentioned Doru Petruți.
The survey has been conducted between September 7-22, on a sample of 1500 respondents, representative for the adult population of the Republic of Moldova, except for the Transnistrian region. The maximum sampling error is ± 2.5%. The sponsor of the survey is Public Media Group.
