In 2006, the degree of providing the population with floor space per inhabitant in Moldova in general represented 21.5 square metres, in urban areas being 19.3 square metres and in rural localities – 23.1 square metres.
According to data of the National Bureau of Statistics, the housing fund of Moldova was early this year around 77.1 mln square metres. 37% of the total housing fund’s volume, or about 28.5 mln square metres, are placed in towns and cities, and 63% or 48.5 mln square metres are placed in rural localities.
By type of property, in 2006, the locative fund represented 4.5% of public property, 95.3% - private property, 0,1 – joint property (private and public together, without foreign investment), 0.05% - property of joint enterprises with foreign investment.
The Chisinau housing fund has about 14.8 mln square metres, Balti City – about 2.5 mln square metres, Gagauzia – 3,5 mln square metres, Orhei district – 2.7 mln square metres, Cahul district – 2.5 mln square metres, Drochia district – 2.3 mln square metres, Ungheni district – 2.3 mln square metres, etc.
