The country will have 1200 local power stations by yearend

By the end of the year there will 1200 thermo-electric stations (CET) throughout the country, as mentioned in a report made by the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure with regards to the National Programme for renewal and decentralisation of heating systems in all localities across the republic. In 2003-2006, 702 CETs were built, the total expenses amounting to 204.3 million lei. Of them 16.6% approximately were covered by local budgets, 25.1% covered by district budgets, 17.7% by the state budget, 13.3% were covered by the Social Investment Fund, 27.3% from other sources, such as the Energetic II project, donations. For this year, 499 CETs are to be built; the investments needed amounting to 124 million lei. Currently, centralised heating systems are operating in Anenii Noi, Calarasi, Cimislia, and Criuleni. According to MII, with the installation of central gas supply in rural localities, the construction of CETs in villages will intensify. The Government plans to increase by 2020 the internal capacity of electricity generation to 70% of the total needs, by building new CETs. Expenses for the functioning of the new energy infrastructure are estimated to reach 450 million euros.
