The construction of 50 kindergarten-type establishments will begin next week across the country

As part of the “Education for All” project, 50 kindergarten-type establishments will be built across the country, starting next week, as promised by the Minister of Education and Youth, Victor Tvircun. According to the minister, they will be built in smaller localities, which lack kindergartens. They have the goal to offer alternative services, enabling the children to attend on Saturdays and Sundays as well in order to obtain the needed education. They will have access to books and games, while their parents will benefit from training and receive appropriate guidance in measures that need to be taken while preparing children for school. These centres will not be classic kindergartens, with meals and lunch hour naptime; they will only provide informational services. The list of all needed didactic support and other means to ensure the functionality of the institutions will be finalised by the end of August. The project is financed by a grant given to Moldova by the Catalytic Fund, working with the World Bank, in the sum of 13 million USD, for the purpose to provide pre-school education to children. The money will be allocated for a 3-year period, in stages, each of 4.4 million USD, based on the progress made in each stage. The project earmarks 50 thousand dollars for each kindergarten, while the contribution of the local budgets will be of 15%. The capitalisation of these resources will ensure quality service in kindergartens, development of inclusive education, i.e. the access of children with disabilities in normal institutions, improvement of didactic personnel in compliance with the changing curriculum, ensuring didactic support for teachers and children, etc. Moreover, it is planned to optimise spaces in kindergartens in order to ensure that 33 kindergartens are renovated in each district within one year. Municipalities are not eligible for the project, but will benefit from instruction programmes targeting educators, as well as didactic material support. The MET representatives stated previously that the Government will examine in parallel the possibility to allocate financial resources to some localities for the reconstruction and construction of kindergartens.
