If the supply of natural gas to Moldova is stopped, SA “Termoelectrica”, which supplies the municipality of Chisinau with heat, can switch over to an alternative source for producing electrical energy and heat - crude oil. The current stores of crude oil are enough for a month and a half, Tudor Gîrbu, counselor on public amenities in the mayor general’s office, stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.

Termoelectrica’s crude oil reserves are sufficient for a month and a half – half of October, when the supply of heat is launched, and the whole November. The supplier launched a tender contest to purchase 190,000 tonnes of crude oil more so as to be able to work and supply heat throughout the cold period of the year.

“We hope the situation will be calm and the planned works will be finished on time, while thermal energy will supplied according to the needs and temperatures,” said Tudor Gîrbu.

He noted that SA “Apă-Canal Chișinău” is also getting ready for an eventual halt in gas supplies and would switch over from gas to diesel fuel.
