The Writers Union of Moldova has a new president. This is poet Teo Chiriac, who was elected in the General Assembly on September 10, IPN reports, with reference to the Union’s Facebook page.
Teo Chiriac was born in Coşerniţa village of Floreşti district on May 29, 1956. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Journalism Department of the State University of Chisinau. He is the author of a number of poetry books, such as “Test Paper”, “Room No. 33”, “Sky near Sky”, “My Soul before the Big Bang” and others.
He won several Awards of the Writers Union of Moldova for his poetry books. In 1996, he got “Esinencu Family” Literature Award for in 2010 – the Lira Award of the International Book Fair of Chisinau, in 2017 – the National Literature Award, while in 2020 – “Constantin Stere” Literature Award for the volume “Friction between Everything and Nothing. Teofans in A4 Format”, provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
Teo Chiriac was the only candidate who competed for the post. He replaced Arcadie Suceveanu who headed the Writers Union during two terms, in 2010-2021.
