Tends of thousands of Communist Party supporters from different parts of the country on Saturday, December 10, rallied in Chisinau in what they called the first National Civic Congress to demand the resignation of the Filat Government and the end of the tripartite Eurointegration Alliance's rule. The protesters marched along Chisinau's main artery to the Great National Assembly in front of the Government building. Communist leader Vladimir Voronin declared in his speech that the date of the congress was not chosen randomly. December 10 is the World Human Rights Day, and human rights are violated by the current government, claimed Voronin. “Everybody's rights are violated, even the rights of the children who are not yet born. Everybody's rights are violated, regardless of age or social status. We all saw what happened twenty years ago. On December 8 twenty years ago three great antichrists, three Judas, after a huge drinking bout signed a document destroying the great country of the USSR”, declared Voronin in his speech. Iurie Muntean, another prominent Communist member, accused the Alliance's government of being responsible for price hikes, increased crime rates and economic decline. “Because of them, we are now governed from Brussels, the United States, Bucharest and from hell knows what other places. Is that what we really wanted?” Communist MP Sergiu Sirbu declared that December 10 marked the “end of the Alliance”, which he described as “anti-national and anti-constitutional”. “The current government forgot about human rights. In this Government building are those who three years ago stole our votes, our and our children's future. They are those who are sharing top government offices according to political criteria. Down with the usurpers, down with the Alliance”, declared Sergiu Sirbu. Organizers estimated the number of protesters at 60,000. The police were not ready to provide an estimate.
