The tender contests for choosing the economic operator that will sterilize stray dogs will be held again in Botanica, Centru and Buiucani districts as no bid was submitted at the previous tender contests. The same veterinary clinic will neuter 450 dogs until this yearend in Ciocana and Râșcani districts, IPN reports.
According to Karl Luganov, senior specialist of the Animal Control and Protection Section of the General Public Amenities Division, the dogs will be caught based on the notifications of citizens. They will be sterilized and vaccinated against rabies and will be put on the register of animals without owners kept by the Division. After they are neutered, the animals will be kept for three-four days and will be then taken back if they are not aggressive. Those who cannot be taken back will be put up for adoption.
The results of the tender contest rerun in Botanica, Centru and Buiucani will be made public on June 2. As many as 450 dogs are to be sterilized in Botanica by the end of this year, while another 450 dogs will be neutered in Centru and Buiucani.
The draft decision on the implementation of the pilot project to vaccinate and chip stray dogs was adopted by the Chisinau Municipal Council on March 31 in a move to solve the problem of breeding of stray dogs in the municipality. The General Public Amenities Division is to implement the project. It is responsible for public procurement and for the selection of the economic operators that will catch, sterilize and chip the stray dogs.
