The municipal company “Regia Autosalubritate” invites tenders for planning a shelter for stray dogs that will have a capacity of up to 2 000 places, Info-Prim Neo reports. The shelter will be located on Petricani St in Chisinau and occupy an area of half a hectare. A veterinary clinic and a cemetery for dogs will be built on its territory. According to a scheme drawn up by the municipal company, 5-10 dogs will be kept in one house. Initially, the shelter will accommodate up to 500 dogs. Its capacity will be then extended to 1 500-2 000 places. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked that the shelter be projected initially for 1 000 places. Asked about the cost and length of the project, Dorin Chirtoaca said he cannot provide exact figures, but stressed that the shelter will be built with money from the budget of the municipal company. “Those who love the animals can also contribute money and help erect and maintain the shelter. We hope volunteers will engage in the constriction works,” he said. About 20 persons will look after the dogs at the shelter, including a veterinarian. The tender contest will take place at the Public Procurement Agency next week.
