The Chisinau City Hall pledged to repair ten streets in the capital city in concert with Genesis International SRL by November. In an open-air conference on July 26, Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said he will not accept works of a poor quality as on Alba Iulia St, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The road infrastructure is very old. Normally, the layer of asphalt is replaced once in ten years. Regrettably, the streets haven’t been fully repaired for 30-50 years. Stefan cel Mare Blvd. was last repaired in 1975, Vadul lui Voda St in 1967, Muncesti St in 1965, Ismail and Calea Mosilor streets in 1965, Dacia Blvd. in 1967, Burebista St in 1972,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. By November, the boulevards Stefan cel Mare and Grigore Vieru and Vadul lui Voda St will be repaired completely. The other streets will be rehabilitated partially. Tudor Strisca St is the first to be repaired. “In order to prevent a repeat of the Alba Iulia St case, when the repair works performed were of a poor quality, the works will be accepted only after different companies perform a detailed inspection and prove that the works meet all the quality standards,” said the mayor. He also said that the Chisinau City Hall needs about 500 million lei to rehabilitate the entire road infrastructure in the municipality during ten years. He stressed the local authorities will gradually reach such an amount. The City Hall took out a loan of 162 million lei to repair the ten streets. The loan will be disbursed in tranches, depending on the work execution schedule, at an interest rate of 4.2% a year. It is repayable in 12 months. Recently, Columna St started to be repaired with funds allocated from the municipal budget. The City Hall also identified financial resources for repairing the streets Aleco Russo, Ion Creanga, Testemitanu and Ion Inculet, within a program financed by the International Finance Corporation. These streets will be repaired in 2012.
