Ten laboratories that were renovated and modernized in the framework of the investment project “Moldova’s Orchard” with €2 million provided by the European Union in financial support were inaugurated at the Technical University of Moldova (UTM).
The investments in the ten labs for research in the agrifood sector within the credit line “Moldova’s Orchard” were made under aegis of the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
“For UTM, this investment project is of a special value. It enabled to modernize the equipment of the Faculty of Food Technology and the Faculty of Mechanical, Industrial Engineering and Transport and to respectively increase the level of training of students at our university,” UTM pro-rector in charge of study Vladistav Reșitca has told IPN
On the occasion of the renovation and modernization of the ten labs, an area of 3,100 m2 was insulated thermally and works to replace the windows and to isolate the whole block of study No. 5 of UTM were performed.
The €2 million represents the funds provided by the EU through the agency of the European Investment Bank.
The inaugural event included the presentation and tasting of innovative food products invented by students of the Faculty of Food Technology with the assistance of the new equipment, such as ice-cream, biscuits, muffins, dried fruit and vegetables.
Artur Macari, head of the Food Technology Department, stated for IPN that the renovation of the ten labs represents the second stage of the project “Moldova’s Orchard” within which teachers and students benefitted from support. The first stage of the project was intended for teachers and students of winegrowing and winemaking faculties.
