Ten notable personalities from medicine, science, literature, culture, agricultural art, charity and security were conferred the National Award in a Laureate Gala on August 24. The awards were handed over by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who said Moldova needs nice, talented and creative people who know to encourage by the power of example, IPN reports, with reference to the Government’s press service.
The National Award 2018 went to university professor Oleg Lupan, Doctor Habilitate of Technical Sciences, for original contributions to developing nanotechnologies and to promoting national science abroad. Writer Iurie Colesnic was awarded for his literary work and research activity in the field of history of Bessarabia. Lecturer Liliana Groppa, Doctor Habilitate of Medical Sciences, received the National Award 2018 in rheumatology for exceptional practical activity and research in rheumatology.
Researcher-lecturer Gheorghe Savin, Doctor Habilitate of Agriculture, was awarded for his selection activity and contribution to developing the national vineyard stock. Film director Viorel Mardare got the National Award for original creation in documentary film making and for promoting Moldova’s image.
Researcher-lecturer Aureliu Batranac, Doctor of Medical Sciences, was awarded for innovations and exceptional activity in heart surgery and for promoting Moldova’s image. Craftswoman Maria Cristea, founder and director of the National Costume’s House “Casa Cristea”, will receive the National Award for her contribution to promoting cultural identity and to safeguarding the national costume in Moldova.
Baritone Andrei Jilihovschi, senior soloist of the Bolshoi Theater, was awarded for his exceptional performing style and for promoting Moldova’s image. Executive director of the Charity Association “MAD-Aid Limited” Victoria Dunford was awarded for contributing to implementing charity projects to include persons with special needs and to promote the model of responsible citizenship in the country of origin Moldova. Retired brigade general Ion Solonenco, the head of Moldova’s delegation to the Joint Control Commission, got the National Award for his considerable contribution to promoting the country reunification and security policy.
“We speak about people who succeeded, who promote the county’s image abroad as well, who, by their achievements, make us believe that it is possible. In a period when models to be followed seem to be absent, while the separation between values and non-values is not always clear, it is important to tell the young generation that we have examples and people of whom we can be proud,” stated Pavel Filip.
The National Award of 100,000 lei is conferred annually on Moldovan citizens for remarkable accomplishments in different areas of activity. The laurates are chosen on a contest basis.
