Ten drivers who tried to bribe patrol inspectors last week risk up to six years in prison and fines ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 lei. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated in a press release that some drivers insisted on giving the police money even when they were warned about criminal liability. In some cases, the drivers left the money in the inspectors' service cars, IPN reports.
The ten drivers proposed to the employees of the National Patrol Inspectorate amounts between one hundred and five hundred lei for not taking the minutes of various violations, such as drunk driving, exceeding the speed limit, lack of driving license or failure to comply with road markings requirements. Most of the cases, half of them, were registered in Chisinau.
The Internal Protection and Anti-Corruption Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens to refrain from corruption, and if they know about or are forced to take part in acts of corruption, they should call the short number 1520 unconditionally.
