Over 1,000 older persons will be trained to use their mobile phones to access social services, social networking sites and make online payments, while 360 older persons will receive mobile phones free of charge. The actions are part of local initiatives concerning active ageing and development of digital skills, IPN reports.
Active ageing programs intended for the elderly in Moldova and for Ukrainian refugees will be implemented in ten districts. The list of selected districts includes: Causeni, Ungheni, Singerei, Rezina, Teleneşti, Nisporeni, Ialoveni, Stefan Voda, Calarasi, Straseni (Cojușna village). Two of these districts will pioneer change, supporting the renovation and establishment of recreation centers for the elderly. Within the centers, there will be carried out various activities for the elderly, such as music and dance, theater, painting, reading and foreign languages, yoga and sports.
The actions form part of a project implemented between November 2023 and February 2024, within the National Program for Active and Healthy Aging, by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, UNFPA Moldova, “Moldcell” Foundation, the British Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, HelpAge International Moldova.
