Teleradio Board responds to NIT accusations
The Supervisory Board of the national broadcasting company “Teleradio-Moldova” is asking the private television channel NIT for the right of reply by requesting it to publish a statement in response to accusations against the Board voiced by the recently sacked, currently Teleradio's caretaker president, Valentin Todercan, Info-Prim Neo reports.
On 31 December 2009, Todercan was interviewed by NIT's flagship news broadcast “Curier”. “The acting Teleradio president Valentin Todercan alleged, without any evidence, that he had been dismissed on the order of political authorities”, said Board member Aurelia Peru Balan. “In the same program he declared himself as supporter of certain political forces and adversary to other, which he promised to fight with from that time forth. All those statements confirm that it was Todercan who favored aggressive political bias practiced in recent years at Teleradio-Moldova”, added Aurelia Peru Balan.
The Board's statement also says that on January 13, NIT restarted accusations against the Board. In the same news broadcast, Curier, Todercan accused the Board of being “a docile tool in the hands of the current, incompetent and vindicative government”. Todercan further argued that his dismissal was illegitimate, because he had been on a leave since 30 December 2009.
Also, the Board was frustrated by Todercan's allegation on Curier that the Board aimed at bankrupting Teleradio for the purpose of having it privatized.
The Board reiterates that there is no place for political interference in its activity. “Mr Todercan was discharged, following careful analysis of the company's activity, for the failure to ensure the principles of sociopolitical balance, unbiasedness and objectivity in the editorial activity”. The legitimacy of Todercan's dismissal, according to the Board, is confirmed by numerous pieces of evidence, including financial recordings.
