A surgeon of the Telenesti District Hospital is suspected of repeatedly asking for money from the mother of a patient for providing medical services, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the denouncer told the anticorruption officers that the patient is 15 and suffers from infantile paralysis. Not long ago, the boy fractured a leg and underwent surgery. A metal plate was introduced in his leg. For this plate the doctor asked for 1,700 lei from the mother.
The doctor was caught in the act of taking the money, in the hospital’s procedures hall, where the minor was being dressed. He faces five to ten years in jail and a fine of 120,000 to 160,000 lei. He will also be banned from holding particular public posts or performing particular activities for a period of seven to ten years.
The suspect is investigated by prosecutors of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office outside prison.
