The public association “Altruism” has launched a mobile application whereby it aims to provide psychological advice to teens and young people in situations of risk and to adults close to them. In a news conference at IPN, the association’s head Liuba Ceban said that through the agency of this mobile application, the users will be able to contact a specialist in suicide prevention.
“This application offers a lot of opportunities to persons who need emotional support. This way we hope we will be closer to the teens and young people who go through difficult situations in life, who feel lonely. They will have a virtual supporter near,” stated Liuba Ceban.
Sergei Pershin, who worked out the application HelpApp, said the information technology has a very great potential and this should be used in the efforts to prevent suicide.
Also today, the association launched the website mirt.md. “On this website, professionals from 11 areas can find resources that would help them find out more about suicide prevention, how to behave towards people who come into contact with us and may have emotional problems,” stated Liuba Ceban. The website is intended to specialists from education, mass media, medicine, religion, psychology, etc.
The web designer that created the website mirt.md Diana Draganova said that she became involved in a social project for the first time and considers this is very important. “I think it is an important and interesting product that will be used to help the young people relate their problems,” she stated.
According to the data of “Altruism”, 556 people killed themselves in Moldova last year. Of these, 445 were men.
