Teenagers from Moldova, key witnesses in a sex-related trial in Philadelphia

Eight adolescents from Moldova were taken to Philadephia (USA) in order to witness against a millionaire accused of sexually abusing minors, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports, on Monday, July 16. According to investigators, the accused was helped by a Romanian procurer (pimp), who served as a translator throughout the period when the crimes were committed. The American newspaper writes that eight teenagers from Moldova are key witnesses in the trial of child molestation against a South Jersey millionaire. An official from Washington states that the process, which starts on Monday, at the Philadelphia Federal Court, could represent the most substantial case in this domain. The Moldovan teenagers will be interrogated by one of the most renowned lawyers in America, Mark Geragos, whose clients included Michael Jackson or Winona Ryder. The accused millionaire is Anthony Mark Bianchi, 44, co-owner, alongside his parents, of a hotel in North Wildwood. He is one of the 48 men arrested in 2003, under a controversial law, which makes the act of travelling abroad for having sex with minors a crime. Until now, 36 persons have been convicted. “People who travel abroad to these poor countries consider themselves different, and that their actions are tolerable and that they will not be punished. It is not easy to work on such cases and bring them to an end, but this process is crucial”, says Drew Oosterbaan, head of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, of the US Department of Justice. The lawyer declares that Bianchi, who worked with a translator and Romanian procurer, took the boys to play pool, to swimming pools and saunas, later on seducing them to his boarding school in Trebujeni. He later on, won the trust of the boys and their families, in order to ensure that he is not accused for his sexual abuse and molestation. Bianchi was also convicted to 3 years in a Russia prison, but was released under general amnesty. The conviction rules in Russia, do not apply in the USA. If found guilty for sexually abusing the boys in Moldova, Bianchi could be convicted to 20 years of imprisonment. The trial will last for almost two weeks.
