An Ungheni girl, aged 15, has been abducted and raped by a group of four men, whose identity is still unknown. Ludmila Untura, doctor coordinator at the Chisinau Emergency Service, has told Info-Prim Neo the victim was found by the police lying in the street in critical condition in Chisinau’s Botanica district on Wednesday morning. The girl told the police that, while passing by the shopping mall “Unic” late the previous night, she had been kidnapped and raped by four men. Later, at around 5:30 in the morning, she was thrown out the kidnappers’ car right in the street. The case is now investigated. An unidentified woman, thought to be about 50, was found drunk in a street in Chisinau. Despite repeated attempts by an ambulance crew to get her a bed in a hospital, she was refused hospitalisation. Ambulance doctors assert it takes them some 2-3 hours of precious time to find a hospital that would admit drunken and homeless persons. They say the best solution is to open sobering-up shelters for persons with alcohol abuse problems. According to Dr Untura, 44 ambulance crews have to respond to about 800 calls each day. The situation was different 20 years ago, when the number of emergency calls was much lower but the number of ambulance crews was approximately 70. On Tuesday, the Emergency Service received 810 calls, responding to 49 cases of trauma, 88 cases of acute viral diseases, 88 brain strokes, and 55 cases of mumps. The same day, 4 persons suffered injuries in 2 traffic accidents. There were also recorded 22 minor accidents. A teenage male driver, 19, got himself injured in the head while driving drunk in the Ciocana district. Inspector Ion Roscovanu of the Chisinau Traffic Police said that, besides insobriety, the driver was speeding and had no driving licence on hand. Over the past day and night, traffic officers fined 428 persons, including 54 for speeding, 31 for not wearing seatbelts, and 44 for jaywalking.
