Teen 2008 operation conducted in Transnistria to crack down on teen drinking

161 adolescents living in the Transnistrian region have been placed under police supervision for substance abuse behaviors, in particular those concerning alcohol and tobacco abuse, following the operation codenamed Teen 2008, which took place during October 6-9, Info-Prim Neo's field correspondent reports. During the campaign, groups consisting of militsiya officers, teachers and children’s rights defenders visited roughly 2,500 adolescents from vulnerable families. In this period, there were discovered 24 crimes committed by minors, in particular thefts, robberies and drug-related offenses. Compared with 2007, the number of offenses committed by adolescents is decreasing, the Transnistrian Interiors Ministry reported, yet without publishing any relevant figures.
