“There is nothing simpler than saying that the head of state will be voted in technically. This means that nobody will impose conditions and everyone will vote,” political analyst Viorel Ciubotaru said, when asked by Info-Prim Neo to comment on the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin’s statements that his party will vote technically, one time, for the presidential candidate. “Until now, there were imposed different conditions for supporting a certain candidate for head of state, like the offering of posts in state institutions and the voting of a package of law that suit a particular party. Voting technically means renouncing all the conditions,” Viorel Ciubotaru explained. The analyst said that the technical method of voting in the President can hide a large number of scenarios, including a subtle game by the PCRM aimed at electing Marian Lupu as head of state by the vote of several Communist MPs so that the general public does not see it directly. “There will be at least two candidates for the presidency - Marian Lupu and an apolitical candidate proposed by the PCRM. In this case, there will be 61 votes for Marian Lupu and the rest for the apolitical candidate. The largest part of the Communists will vote for the apolitical candidate, while two or three for Marian Lupu,” Viorel Ciubotaru said. Asked if the present ruling alliance may be dismembered and a new PCRM-PLDM coalition formed instead, Viorel Ciubotaru said this was possible theoretically, but only before the creation of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) - 2. The analyst considers the formation of a new coalition will be a risky step as the support promised earlier by the European partners to the AEI may not be offered. On the other hand, it will take months to constitute a new alliance because the components must agree a lot of aspects.
