Teachers give up protesting for a while

The protests announced by teachers for August 4 have been adjourned for September 10. The deputy president of the Trade Unions Federation from Moldova, Petru Chiriac, has told Info-Prim Neo the decision was taken because of the floods having stricken Moldova. “Given the fact that a good part of the Moldovan districts are flooded, the members of the education and culture trade union decided to collect and provide aid to victims.” The trade unions have suspended their protests also because they hope the Government will start negotiating to raise the teachers' salaries by 35%, as from September 1. “Unfortunately we don't have with whom to negotiate in the Government with, since our officials are always on trips. However we have been promised the officials will negotiate with us this week,” said the deputy president of the Trade Union Confederation. The request to increase the salaries was put up by the trade unions on 14 July.
