Taxpayers urged to direct 2% of income tax to Pensioners Union

The Pensioners Union of Moldova calls upon the taxpayers to direct to it the 2% of the income tax paid to the state. Representatives of the organization said they aim to ensure the minimum experience needed for this category of citizens.

In a news conference at IPN, chairman of the Pensioners Union Victor Leancă said the decision to direct 2% of the income tax to the organization would enable this to institute a support fund for elderly people. “The person who will support the initiative will lose nothing. But the pensioners will only gain,” he stated.

According to Victor Leancă, together with this support fund, they aim to support social and medical assistants’ initiatives aimed at helping the elderly. Charity events could be also staged.

Victor Leancă also said that this money would help cover the costs planned for opening centers for serving elderly people. There are over 700,000 pensioners in Moldova and most of them live at the poverty line.

“Any person who in March completes the tax returns and is ready to transfer the 2% to the Pensioners Union should write the Union’s fiscal account number 1011620009329,” stated Victor Leancă.

The mechanism for allocating 2% of the income tax (2% Law) has been applied since 2017 for the income earned the previous year. The private individuals who pay taxes can direct 2% of the tax paid on the income earned the previous year to nongovernmental organizations that serve the public interests and to religious entities. If the money is not redirected, it remains to the state.

The Pensioners Union of Moldova was included in the list of organizations that can benefit from the 2% mechanism this September.
