Taxi drivers working illegally urged to legalize business

The Taxi Passenger and Baggage Carriers Employers convinced the authorities to include penalties for taxi drivers working without a license in the Code of Administrative Offenses. The announcement was made by the Employer’s head Sergiu Dodon, who called on the carriers working illegally to legalize their business.

In a news conference at IPN, Sergiu Dodon said the taxi drivers working legally are affected by the disloyal competition from carriers without licenses, who do not pay taxes and thus cause damage to the state as well. The bill to amend the Code of Administrative Offenses, submitted to Parliament for approval, envisions fines of 2,000 to 3,000 lei for private individuals and of 4,000 to 8,000 lei for legal entities that will provide taxi services without a license.

Sergiu Dodon stated that they demand imposing this penalty for the first violation, toughening up it for the second similar violation and confiscating the vehicle for the benefit of the state for the third violation. The institution of such punishment will lead to the diminution of taxi fares as the carriers working legally will no longer face disloyal competition.

According to the Employers’ head, the yellow license plates for passenger carriers cannot combat the illegal passenger transportation activities. This measure does not yet have an effect, especially because the time limit by which all the carriers working legally must replace the license plates with yellow plates was extended until November 17.
