Tax Service chief to be dismissed
Nicolae Platon will be dismissed from the post of director of the State Tax Service, as announced today by Prime Minister Vlad Filat at a meeting with Tax Service and Anticorruption Center officials, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vlad Filat said that while some progress was achieved during Nicolae Platon's tenure, the current situation at the State Tax Service requires a manager with enhanced competence in fiscal administration.
Earlier the Prime Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with how tax revenues were being accumulated and with fiscal administration in general. When asked how a new tax service chief should be, Filat said that, rather than being an inspector, he or she should be someone who is able to persuade businesses to pay their taxes benevolently.
Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta revealed that consultations are under way and on Monday morning the latest a candidate to replace Platon will be announced. Nicolae Platon was appointed to the office in 2009 when the Eurointegration Alliance came to power.
