Although the Tarlev Cabinet resigned on Wednesday, March 19, but will administer public affairs till a new Government is sworn in, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Government’s sitting started at 10.00 AM and all the planned decisions were adopted. Later the Government members were told President Voronin was expected at 11 o’clock. When he came, Vasile Tarlev asked him to accept the resignation application. The Prime-Minister in office has said, during their years in power, the Governmental team has managed to successfully carry out more actions aimed at stabilizing the economic situation and insuring the ascending development of the country. The progresses recorded, according to the premier, are the result of joint efforts of the Central Authorities. “It’s obvious the time establishes new imperatives for the country. We’ll tell you frankly, in my opinion, under these circumstances, Mr. President, the time has come for a change, after which, the continuity will be insured, especially, in implementing the progress-oriented projects and initiative we launched. It is with satisfaction that I can say, that during all these years, we have managed to reach efficient results, including training more responsible managers within the cabinet, who, in my opinion, can be trusted the administration of the Government and not only. These people shall be given the chance to promote themselves and to capitalize the talent and skills. Because of these reasons, Mr. President, I ask to accept my resignation,” Vasile Tarlev has stated. In his speech, President Vladimir Voronin has confirmed that the Government managed to carry out its tasks. The head of the state appreciated Vasile Tarlev’s resignation as proving he realizes the need for a change. According to Vladimir Voronin, it is a new procedure for Moldova when a Prime-Minister resigns. The President appreciated the qualities and good character of Vasile Tarlev, mentioning his career was not ended. The head of the state has read out a decision to award the Order of the Republic to Vasile Tarlev. After the sitting, Vasile Tarlev has told the press there are at least five ministers, but also officials from among the social partners, competent enough to succeed him. Asked about how the new premier should be, more technocrat or more political, Vasile Tarlev says it matters he should be an experienced person, capable to solve the problems of the real sector. Under the Moldovan Constitution, in case the Prime-Minister is dismissed, the whole cabinet resigns. Vasile Tarlev was appointed as premier in 2001, being confirmed in 2005.
