Romanian is the official language stipulated in the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC) and other constitutional acts. The decision has the effect of a law and can be ignored by no Moldovan authority, the Court’s president Alexandru Tanase said in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova1, IPN reports.
Alexandru Tanase stated that those who would want to organize a referendum to find out the people’s opinion about the CC’s decision on the official language must know that the scientific problems cannot be put up for political vote or plebiscite in general. “I want to be explicit. The decision of the Constitutional Court has a legal effect. The decisions to interpret the Constitution have the power of laws. There is no possibility of avoiding the CC’s decision,” said Alexandru Tanase.
He added that the CC’s decisions, especially those that explain and interpret the Constitution, do not need to meet the form conditions in order to produce a legal effect. The interpretative decisions of the Court produce an immediate effect and cannot be ignored by any Moldovan authority. “In this case, Parliament is not obliged to make amendments. We have two texts with different content that are constitutional. The Constitutional Court said what the exact text is and the decision must be implemented immediately,” said Alexandru Tanase.
