Tamara Plamadeala says she cannot obtain a meeting with PM to discuss chidlren's problems

The children's right to education is most often violated in Moldova. The education system is of a poor quality, but the authorities do nothing to improve it, ombudsman for chidlren's rights Tamara Plamadeala said in a news conference on Thursday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The school program is overloaded and theorized, while the textbooks are difficult to understand. Moreover, the students have to do their homework till late at night as the teacher gives them 20 exercises instead of three, Tamara Plamadeala said, stressing she made a number of approaches to the Ministry of Education. “Unfortunately, the Ministry does not react to all our recommendations and proposals. We receive evasive answers. If I, as ombudsman, get answers from the authorities with difficulty, what can the ordinary people do in our country?” Tamara Plamadeala asked. As to the rights that are violated, the ombudswoman sad that cases of discrimination and use of violence still happen in schools. “The teachers who maltreated children continue to work in the education system. The Ministry of Education does not take attitude. It's time that the Government starts to react,” Tamara Plamadeala said. She stressed she has been trying to talk to Premier Vlad Filat for several months. “I have list of 48 problems pointed out by children and parents and I want to discuss them with the Prime Minister, but I have received no answer from his so far.” The ombudsman also spoke about the institutionalization of children, saying the state spends 29,000 lei a year for an institutionalized child. If these children are placed in families, the state will save money, while the children will live in a better environment, she said.
