Tamara Chișca-Doneva named acting president of SCJ

Vice president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) Tamara Chișca-Doneva was named acting president of the Court. The judge took up on April 7, but the announcement was made on Tuesday by the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) that convened for a meeting, IPN reports.

According to SCM member Ion Guzun, the necessity of taking such a decision derives from the law on the Supreme Court of Justice, which provides that the post of acting president is filled automatically. The decision can be disputed in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 30 days.

Tamara Chișca-Doneva was suspended from the post of acting president of the SCJ on April 15, 2022 in connection with her investigation for unjust enrichment. According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, in October 2022 the charges against Tamara Chișca-Doneva were dropped, but the investigation continues.
