Talks on Association Agreement with EU closed

The Moldova – European Union Cooperation Council confirmed that the negotiations on the Association Agreement, including the Free Trade Agreement, with the EU have been closed. The Council projects that the agreement will be initialed at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit of November 29 and that it will be signed immediately after the technical procedures are finalized, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the EU approves of the progress made by Moldova in implementing the second and last phase of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan and confirms the objectives of granting a visa-free regime in the EU for Moldovans as soon as possible. Opinions were stated in the 15th meeting of the Cooperation Council held in Luxemburg.

A special session within the meeting centered on the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. The sides underlined the importance of maintaining the dialogue within the exiting formats of the negotiations. The European Union assured that it will continue to provide assistance in drawing the two banks of the Nistru closer.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that all these accomplishments are the result of the reforms done by the Moldovan authorities and this fact will make the country’s European course irreversible.

At the end of the meeting, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle said the formation of the Pro-European Coalition in Moldova and the finishing of the talks represent a powerful argument for strengthening the relations and focusing the dialogue on the actions that should be taken before and after the Vilnius Summit.
