“A talented man knows how to pass on this gift to his pupils,” proteges of the plastic artist Gheorghe Munteanu said at the jubilee exhibition of the master opened at the Exhibitions Center “Constantin Brancusi” in Chisinau. It was occasioned by the 70th birthday of the artist and issuing of his memory book “Gheorghe Munteanu din Practica Amintirilor” (“Gheorghe Munteanu from the Experience of Memories”, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dozens of Gheorghe Munteanu's pupils from Moldova and abroad came together at the exhibition titled “Gheorghe Munteanu with his Pupils”. The exhibit includes about 60 works made by Gheorghe Munteanu during his college days and his entire life. Filled with nostalgia for their school years, the pupils also exhibited their works alongside their master's. Maria Mardare-Fusu, a painter and member of the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova, said that the exhibition is a reflection of memories. “It impresses that this exhibition is not solely by artist Gheorghe Munteanu, who could well fill the hall with paintings himself, but also by his pupils. We are now here together with him as he loved us very much and transmitted us his talent. In addition, he presented his book that speaks about all his pupils. It is not a traditional book as it was written mainly by us.” Mihai Jomir, a member of the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova and pupil of Gheorghe Munteau, said: “It is an exceptional exhibit. It is nice that the former pupils displayed their works together with their master. Art united us again and we came here with our own works. I'm very excited to see the paintings that I made in the artist's studio in the 1970s. I'm contended as they are really beautiful and full of life. I remember the master saying: “I'm not interested in what you do in the workshop, but in what you do at home where you find inspiration.” His wise words helped me a lot in life.” The book “Gheorghe Munteanu from the Experience of Memories” was in the artist's mind even in the 1960s, when he was at the start of his career. “I began to collect materials for the book in 1959. They included photographs, recollections and the most precious works made by my pupils in my presence. The book contains 840 names of pupils, publications with pictures. The exhibit includes works by my pupils working in New York, Paris, Saint-Petersbourg. I'm glad that I managed to gather so many valuable and different works. I'm glad that most of my deer pupils are with me today,” the artist said. Gheorghe Munteanu's contribution to the development of the artistic education in Moldova can be compared only with the contribution of his forerunners August Ballierre and Alexandru Plamadeala, who worked in the inter-war period and had pupils who asserted themselves in many countries, said Tudor Braga, the director of the Exhibitions Center “Constantin Brancusi”. “Gheoghe Munteanu outstripped many painters by the number of his works and, possibly, by their quality. This is a rare event in the history of our culture.” The exhibition contains over 300 works by artist Gheorghe Munteanu and his pupils. It will be open until September 27.
