According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the murder was committed on the night of February 21, at the home of one of the suspects. Following a dispute over an alleged debt, one of the suspects fired an illegally owned hunting weapon, striking the victim in the chest, in the heart area. The man died on the spot.

The two suspects subsequently transported the body to the town of Lipcani and abandoned it near the city cemetery. The corpse was only discovered on March 11th.

According to the General Inspectorate of Police, the incident was reported on the morning of February 14th. The taxi driver stated that the passenger, whom he was transporting from Moscova Boulevard to the Centru sector, allegedly pulled out an unknown type of weapon and threatened him.

The officers of the Central Inspectorate, together with the employees of the “Fulger” Brigade, identified and detained the suspect. Following the search at his residence, the weapon was found and confiscated.

The man was detained for 72 hours and is under criminal investigation for threat of murder.

The incident took place on the evening of December 5, around 09:30 PM.

According to preliminary information, the police officer would have briefly left the area where he was carrying out his duties, at which point a gunshot was heard.

Colleagues found him on the ground, with a wound in the jaw area. Initial findings indicate that the police officer injured himself with his service weapon. However, it is not specified whether it was an accident or a suicide attempt.

In addition, the project stipulates the reduction of the firearm permit review period from five years to three years. Permit holders will be required to attend a minimum 40-hour qualification course for firearm handling.

Another novelty is the introduction of the State Digital Register of Weapons, a platform that will transparently track the path of each weapon, from production and import to transfer, repair, or ammunition destruction. At the same time, the project introduces the European passport for firearms, which will allow the legal transportation of personal weapons through the member states of the European Union.

According to the project, the police will be able to confiscate weapons from owners in case of legal violations, and these will be examined by the State Commission for the evaluation and grading of weapons.

The data from the Police, presented in the project, shows that recently, the number of crimes and incidents related to the use, storage, or illegal procurement of weapons is on the rise. In 2024, there were 216 crimes recorded, and the number of incidents reached 5 368. In the first months of the current year, the authorities reported 117 crimes and 2 667 incidents related to weapons.
