The MEP stated that the decision marks an important moment in the European journey of the Republic of Moldova and represents the result of reforms implemented in recent years. “This is the moment we all have been waiting for, especially the people of the Republic of Moldova”, he added.

Siegfried Muresan emphasized that Moldova has continued its reforms and approach to the EU despite external pressures and security challenges. He mentioned that the country is considered one of the most advanced candidates in terms of implementing the necessary reforms for accession.

“We, in the European Parliament, believe that the Republic of Moldova has been ready for over a year to begin negotiations on clusters”, stated Siegfried Muresan. According to the MEP, the European legislature will continue to provide Moldova with political and technical support in the accession process.

Victor Negrescu stated that the Republic of Moldova has the potential to progress faster than other candidate states in the process of joining the European Union. The official also said that the European Parliament remains firmly committed to supporting the rapid opening of all negotiation clusters for Chisinau.

The event, organized by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Moldova and the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, brings together representatives of state institutions, experts, international partners and civil society organizations to analyze the current state of reforms, economic convergence and societal resilience in the context of accession negotiations.

The Executive Director of IPRE, Iulian Groza, emphasized that the forum provides a space for constructive debates and for assessing the progress of the Republic of Moldova in the negotiation process, as well as the next steps. He highlighted the importance of public dialogue in the context of the European agenda and the need for society to clearly understand the stages of the accession process. “It is important to communicate more, to explain the challenges, tasks and our mission, considering an ambitious schedule to be prepared for EU accession in 2030,” noted Iulian Groza.

Felix Hett, representative of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, stated that Moldova is experiencing a unique historical moment, in which it has the opportunity to make decisive progress towards the EU. At the same time, he mentioned that the success of the process depends on the support of the entire society. “European integration can only be successful if it is supported by the entire society. This cannot be left solely to the discretion of a narrow group of devoted enthusiasts,” he said.

Daniela Vidaicu, the executive director of the Soros Foundation Moldova, drew attention to the internal and external challenges that influence the accession process. According to her, the European project is a project of peace for the Republic of Moldova, it is not an option, but a pressing necessity. “European integration is a clear choice of the citizens and it is a demanding process, with huge efforts, which concerns us all,” she added.

Throughout the day, participants analyze, in three panels, the priorities for opening negotiation chapters and the impact of the 1.9 billion euro Economic Growth Plan. Also, measures for strengthening political and social consensus on EU accession are discussed, as well as the recommendations from the European Commission’s 2025 Enlargement Report.
