Non-governmental organizations can access grants to enhance their ability to sustainably address the human rights issues of vulnerable groups, including at the community level. The call is launched by the United Nations Development Programme, reports IPN.

According to UNDP, the program provides for the awarding of five grants, each worth up to 15 thousand dollars. The funded projects will have a maximum implementation duration of nine months.

The projects proposed within the competition may aim at developing social services at the community level, including the provision of legal and psychological assistance, facilitating the access of vulnerable groups to the labor market or creating new community services. Also, they may include information activities and awareness campaigns intended to combat stigma and discrimination, as well as to promote the rights of vulnerable groups.

UNDP emphasizes that projects must also include a digital transformation component of the applicant organizations, such as improving online presence or using digital tools for informing beneficiaries and providing services.

Grants are awarded to non-governmental organizations registered on the right bank of the Dniester River, but proposals submitted by consortia that bring together organizations from both banks are also encouraged.

The competition is held within the framework of the joint UN program “Strengthening human rights on both banks of the Dniester”, funded by the Government of Sweden.

Six technical vocational education institutions have each received half a million lei for performance and partnerships with the economic environment in dual education. Another five institutions have received grants of 25 thousand euros each for launching new programs through dual education, reports IPN.

The awards were given during an event organized by the Ministry of Education and Research. Minister Dan Perciun stated that dual education offers young people the chance to learn a demanded profession, to gain practical experience during their studies, and to have employment prospects after graduation.

The Professional School no. 5 in Chisinau, the Center of Excellence in Information Technology and Informatics in Chisinau, the Professional School in Bubuieci, the Center of Excellence in Transportation in Chisinau, the Professional School in Ceadar-Lunga, and the Center of Excellence in Construction in Chisinau have all received funding of 500 thousand lei. These were selected following a competition in which 22 out of the 45 institutions implementing the program participated.

The grants of 25 thousand euros were allocated for Professional School No. 3 in Chisinau, Professional School No. 6 in Chisinau, the Agroindustrial College in Rascani, the Center of Excellence in Light Industry in Chisinau, and the Professional School in Ciumai. The resources will be used for equipping laboratories, purchasing equipment, and training teaching staff.

According to the MEC, in the current academic year, nearly 2,200 young people have chosen dual education, 30% more than last year. Currently, 45 out of 81 vocational-technical institutions are preparing specialists through the dual system, in partnership with 230 companies.

The initiative is structured around five main directions. It targets projects that support civil society in the field of social cohesion and services for vulnerable groups. Also, it targets projects promoting gender equality and combating gender-based violence, as well as those that strengthen the capacity and sustainability of community organizations, including platforms and OSC networks.

Another important direction aims at improving inclusive governance through closer cooperation between civil society organizations and local public authorities in implementing reforms related to the EU accession process. At the same time, the call supports independent media, investigative journalism, and fact-checking activities, thus contributing to transparency and accurate public information.
