Initial news: A department head from SA Termoelectrica has been detained for 72 hours in a corruption case, which targets the organization and conduct of procurement procedures within the company, reports IPN.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, he is suspected of systematically demanding and receiving money from a representative of a business entity to favor the respective company in tenders organized by the enterprise. According to preliminary data, the amount transmitted monthly was 10 thousand lei.

At the same time, law enforcement officers conducted several searches at the workplace of the person concerned and at the headquarters of the economic agent. During these searches, sums of money were discovered, which investigators assume were transferred for the month of May, as well as electronic information storage devices and documents relevant to the criminal case.

The NAC states that the file is being investigated under the aspect of active and passive corruption crimes, and the criminal investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the case and identify all the people involved.

According to a press release issued by the State Tax Service, legal entities controlled by a sanctioned entity may accept cash payments from individuals who are not engaged in business activities only up to 1,000 lei per transaction for retail sales.

To circumvent these restrictions, the company allegedly resorted to a fictitious method of using vouchers, which are considered certificates allowing the purchase of goods up to a certain amount. Thus, for a purchase of 2,000 lei, the full amount would have been paid in cash, but the records would have shown 1,000 lei in cash and 1,000 lei in the form of a fictitious voucher.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the scheme was allegedly implemented starting in December 2025 by a group of individuals who are currently being identified. The alleged purpose was to conceal actual cash receipts.

Following the 39 searches conducted in the central, northern, and southern parts of the country, computer equipment, mobile phones, cash, draft documents, accounting records, and electronic data storage devices relevant to the investigation were seized.

Investigations are ongoing to determine all the circumstances, identify the beneficial owners, and clarify the role of each person involved. According to the tax authorities, the scheme is linked to the one announced in March, in which the loss exceeds 173 million lei.

According to preliminary data, a business entity would have been designated as the winner in the absence of the necessary permits, a fact that generated a real danger to the health of the population and the environment. According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, 24 searches were conducted, during which documents and other items relevant to the criminal case were seized. Law enforcement officials mention that additional information about the progress of the case will be provided later.

The clarifications come after, during public hearings on the parliamentary platform, the administration of the Institute of Emergency Medicine stated that, since last year, they can no longer bury anatomopathological waste in Chisinau. The situation led to the accumulation of this waste within the institution, and the hospital was forced to purchase refrigeration equipment and bear additional costs for temporary storage.

The Ministry of Health specifies that, according to the regulatory framework, these wastes must be disposed of by burial in cemeteries, in specially arranged spaces, or, in their absence, by composting in dedicated pits. The authorities maintain that the provided methods comply with public health requirements.

In parallel, the institution maintains contact with medical units, to ensure that waste is temporarily stored under compliant conditions, so that risks to the population are reduced.

The issue of medical waste management was recently discussed during the hearings organized by the Parliamentary Committee for Environment, Climate and Green Transition, where authorities and representatives of medical institutions pointed out the lack of functional solutions and the need for urgent intervention.

Thus, legitimate importers are protected from unfair practices, and the guarantee is fully refunded when the origin of the goods is confirmed.

The procedure involves informing economic agents, their ability to present additional documents, and international checks to confirm the origin of goods. All stages are managed through the ASYCUDA World computer system, which, according to authorities, reduces processing time and provides complete traceability.
