Szilágyi Mátyás: Financing of country is most important issue

The financing of the country is now the most important task of the current government of Moldova, Hungarian Ambassador in Chisinau Szilágyi Mátyás said in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel. The diplomat voiced hope that the Government of Moldova will reach an agreement with the IMF, IPN reports.

“It will be hard for the government to obtain financing as real results are needed to convince the international financial organizations. This process of convincing the IMF is very difficult. The financial institutions are very professional and take into account only the realities and the accomplishments. The IMF is an inevitable partner and I hope that it will help Moldova during a long period of time,” said Szilágyi Mátyás.

The diplomat reiterated the EU’s position that the Republic of Moldova should do reforms. “We expect that you have political will and will start real reforms and that you will implement the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU,” he stated.

The ambassador recommended the Moldovan government to have a dialogue with the opposition so as to reach a compromise. “We hope that the current government will work and will be more efficient that the previous ones. Dialogue is needed if there is a problem. There is no other way of solving problems. It is very important to establish a dialogue with the opposition,” he said.

Szilágyi Mátyás noted he is for peaceful protests in Chisinau. “It is shameful when peaceful protests degenerate into violence. The disorder of January 2016 seems inadmissible to me,” he stated.
