Sympathizers of PCRM seek dismissal of Alexandru Tanase

Several dozen sympathizes of the Party of Communists (PCRM) on October 6 protested in front of the Constitutional Court, demanding that the Court’s president Alexandru Tanase should be dismissed. The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the Constitutional Court’s decision to restore the people’s right to elect the Head of State. The PCRM calls on the population to boycott the October 30 presidential elections because it considers that only this way can early parliamentary elections be provoked to bring forces able to change the state of affairs in the country to power, IPN reports.

Communist MPs Inna Supac and Elena Bodnarenko left a draft document at the Constitutional Court, whereby the Communist parliamentary group proposes amending the Constitution so that the judgments of the Constitutional Court become definitive only after these are approved by a majority of votes in Parliament – not less than 2/3 of the elected MPs.

“We should not allow several judges who are citizens of another state to decide what the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the country’s people should do. For this legislative initiative to be registered, we need signatures. That’s why we will ask all the parliamentary groups to sign this initiative and hope that those who are still able to struggle with the oligarchic regime will sign it,” stated Ina Supac.

The protesters also submitted an application concerning the dismissal of the Constitutional Court’s president Alexandru Tanase for the reason that he becomes involved in politics by his statements. “We have evidence showing that Alexandru Tanase takes action and makes political statements that are incompatible with his current status and we are thus waiting for an answer from the other judges of the Court,” added Ina Supac.

For her part, Elena Bodnarenko noted that the decision to amend the Constitution and restore the people’s right to elect the Head of State set an unexpected precedent. “Moldova is managed by a criminal group that wants to also appropriate the third force in the state – the presidency – and thus amended the Constitution, while the Constitutional Court favors this,” she stated.
