The Swiss Department for Development and Cooperation (SDDC) and the Chisinau Government have signed an agreement Memorandum regarding the financing of the Moldo-Swiss project “Modernization of the perinatologic service of the Republic of Moldova”. The memorandum was signed by the ministry of Health and Social protection, Ion Ababii and the Swiss Ambassador Christian Faessler, based on the agreement between the Republic of Moldova Government and the Swiss Confederacy Government regarding the Humanitarian Assistance and Technical Cooperation from September 20 2001. The “Modernization of the perinatologic service of the Republic of Moldova” project for the 2006-2008 years foresees the allocation of CHF 2.5 mil for equipping 26 maternities from the republic and for the personnel training. High-performance equipment will be donated to the Institute of Scientific Research in the field of Mother and Child Health Protection and to the perinatologic centers from Chisinau and Balti. These technologies will allow taking better care of ill or prematurely born children. A study of the neurological malfunctions of prematurely born children will be done in the project, and prophylactic methods of treatment and rehabilitation of the neurological malfunctions will be developed. For realization of this study a diagnostic group of cerebral malfunction will be created. Seminars on the topic of rehabilitation of premature born with cerebral malfunctions will be held in the same time. The Swiss cooperation bureau in Chisinau supports the National Perinatology Program since 2003. During 2003-2006 training courses for 1475 medics from the primary medical assistance from 20 rayon of the Republic were held in Chisinau with SDDC’s support. In the same time SDDC contributed to the equipment of several educational centers for pregnant women and their families in the regional medical centers. During 2005-2006 the Swiss Cooperation Bureau in Chisinau supported the National Communication Campaign “For a healthy child”.
