Swimming in two recreational areas of Chisinau municipality was banned after dangerous bacteria were found in the Nistru River and in the lake of Vatra town. The announcement was made by the head of the Green Areas Association Eliferii Haruta in the June 22 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and subdivisions, IPN reports.
Eliferii Haruta said signs showing that swimming is banned will be set up on the two beaches.
According to the State Public Health Service of Chisinau municipality, after taking samples of water from the lakes situated in the Parks “Valea Trandafirilor”, “Rascani”, “La Izvor”, “Valea Morilor”, “Vatra” and from the Nistru River, the vibrio cholerae NON 01 was found in the samples taken from the Nistru and “Vatra”. It was also established that the sand on the beaches of the Parks “Valea Trandafirilor”, “Rascani”, “,Vatra” and of the Nistru is infected with roundworms.
Swimming in the lakes polluted with microorganisms is dangerous as one can catch such diseases as viral hepatitis A, serous meningitis, acute diarrheic diseases, and skin diseases. The direct contact with the polluted sand can lead to such parasitic diseases as ascariasis and toxocariasis.
